One of the all time classics that still lingers vividly is the 1973 cup final between Sunderland and Leeds, with one particular moment etched forever in my memory as Jimmy Montgomery's incredible double save from Trevor Cherry - a feat that cemented his status as a hero back then.

In this iconic match, Peter Lorimer scored a stunning goal from distance, which was more than enough to seal the win for Sunderland. But what made it truly unforgettable was Ian Porterfield's brilliant finish, after being picked up by Bob Stokoe and leading him on a merry chase down the pitch in pursuit of Montgomery.

The result was not only a dramatic upset, but also a momentous occasion that will be cherished by fans forever - one that sparked joy and relief for Sunderland at a time when their season was already looking rather glum.

I'm still reeling from the match I attended on Sunday at the Stadium of Light, and I have to say, Sunderland's performance was one for the books - or rather, it would have been if they hadn't lost their best players in the 70s. The fans were thoroughly entertained by two teams of skilled professionals putting on a show that left us all on edge as much as the opposing team.

It was quite remarkable to see how the game seemed to be dragging on for hours, with both sides trading blows and neither gaining the upper hand - it felt like we'd never get a break. Despite this, the atmosphere in the stadium was electric, and I found myself cheering along with the rest of the crowd even when our own team's star players were falling over each other as much as they were on the pitch.

I must say that the game would have been better had it lasted longer - unfortunately, the match ended all too soon, leaving us fans left to wonder what could have been.
