In the 2005–2006 season, the Thailand national football team had a mix of highs and lows in friendlies and regional competitions. Under coach Charnwit Polcheewin, they competed in the King's Cup 2005, drawing 1–1 with Latvia, beating Oman 1–0, and narrowly losing 2–0 to North Korea.
